Life is full of uncertainties. We face challenges, make decisions, and encounter situations where the path forward is unclear. In moments like these, it's easy to feel lost, unsure, or overwhelmed. The pressures of daily life can cloud our vision, making us focus solely on the circumstances around us. But as Christians, we are called to live differently—not by what we see, but by faith.
In 2 Corinthians 5:7, Paul reminds us that we "live by faith, not by sight." This simple yet profound verse invites us to shift our focus from our earthly perspective to a higher, eternal viewpoint. It’s a powerful reminder that our faith in God can give us the clarity, strength, and peace we need, even when our situation doesn’t make sense.
What Does It Mean to "Walk by Faith"?
To walk by faith means to trust in God’s guidance and promises, even when we can't fully see the outcome. It means stepping forward when we don’t have all the answers or when the path ahead looks daunting.
In the Bible, we see numerous examples of people who walked by faith:
Abraham left his home and followed God’s call, not knowing where he was going but trusting that God had a plan (Genesis 12:1-4).
Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, even when the Red Sea stood in front of them (Exodus 14:21-22).
Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water, trusting that Jesus would keep him safe (Matthew 14:29-31).
These stories remind us that walking by faith isn't about having a clear view of the future; it's about trusting that God is with us every step of the way. Even when we can’t see the end result, we can rely on His promises.
The Struggles of Walking by Faith
Walking by faith isn't always easy. We live in a world where sight, logic, and reason often take center stage. Our senses naturally want to lead us, and it can be hard to let go of control and trust God fully. Using our logic and our senses is not wrong, but sometimes we need humility enough to trust God's judgment more than our own.
When faced with financial difficulties, relationship problems, health issues, or any of life's uncertainties, the temptation is to focus on the "facts" in front of us—what we can see, touch, and measure. But this is where faith comes in. Faith is not about denying reality, but about trusting in God's power and goodness to help us through those times, knowing he won't forsake us no matter how rough life gets.
Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself” (Matthew 6:34). When we focus on our circumstances, we can become overwhelmed, but when we place our trust in God, He brings peace and hope even in the midst of uncertainty.
How to Walk by Faith in Everyday Life
Trust God’s Timing
Walking by faith means trusting that God's timing is perfect, even when we don't understand why things are happening the way they are. Sometimes, the answer doesn’t come immediately, but God is never late. He knows what we need and when we need it.
Keep Your Eyes on Jesus
Just like Peter, who began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus (Matthew 14:30), we can easily become distracted by the storms of life. To walk by faith, we must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. When we focus on His promises and character, we find the strength to move forward.
Pray for Guidance
Faith isn’t just a mindset; it’s a relationship. Ask God for the wisdom to see beyond your current situation. Prayer is a powerful tool that helps you connect with God and receive His direction. Don’t be afraid to ask for help—He’s always listening.
Take Small Steps of Obedience
Faith is often built one small step at a time. Trusting God doesn’t always mean taking big leaps; sometimes, it’s about being obedient in the small things. By taking consistent steps in faith, we grow stronger in our trust and reliance on God.
Remember His Faithfulness
Reflect on the times God has been faithful to you in the past. When we look back at how God has guided us through tough situations before, it gives us the confidence to trust Him in the future. He hasn’t failed us yet, and He won’t start now.
The Blessings of Living by Faith
Living by faith brings peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). It allows us to rest in God’s sovereignty, knowing that no matter what happens, He is in control. Walking by faith gives us hope in the midst of trials and a deep sense of purpose, even when life doesn’t make sense.
In Romans 8:28, Paul tells us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." When we walk by faith, we trust that God is working everything for our good, even when we don’t see how.
Conclusion: Keep Walking by Faith
No matter what you're facing today, remember that you don’t have to rely on what you can see. Trust in God’s faithfulness and follow Him, step by step. When you choose to walk by faith, you align yourself with God’s will, and He will guide you through every storm. Your trust in Him will make the path clear, even if you can’t see it right away.
So, take that step today. Walk by faith, not by sight. And know that God is with you every step of the way.
